Josephine (Joann, Aunt Jo-Jo) A. Maguire, age 57, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 5, 2012, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern, NY. She was born November 3, 1954, in New York, New York, to Jerome and Mary (Purcell) Maguire. After attending Pearl River High School, Jo waitressed for many years, at Red Lobster, Louie’s on the Avenue and Pasta Amore, where she met many life-long friends. Over the last several years Joann worked as an insurance agent for All-State in both Nanuet and Tallman offices and at Better Homes and Garden’s in Pearl River. Joann truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; relishing chatting with friends and family, enjoying meals at fine restaurants and avidly watching Fox News. She especially loved spending time with her nephew and nieces, who were the joy of her life. We hope she is now peacefully enjoying a cup of coffee and a smoke with Mom. She is survived by her father, Jerome Maguire, of Pearl River, NY, her brother Stephen, of Alexandria, VA, her brother John and his wife Jeanne, of Garnerville, NY, her brother Patrick, of Mahwah, NJ, her sister Christine Duffy and her husband Owen, of Schenectady, NY, her sister Mary Maguire-Witte and her husband Dan, of Chicago, IL, her sister Dorothy, of Valley Cottage, NY. Her nieces, Theresa and Catherine Duffy, Maria and Katie Maguire, and her nephew Jack Maguire also survive her. She was predeceased by her loving mother, Mary (Marion). A Mass Of Christian Burial will be Celebrated on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Church in Nanuet burial will follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery, friends may call on Thursday from 6:00PM to 9:00 Pm at the Scarr Funeral Home Inc Route 202 Suffern.The Maguire family would like to extend our gratitude to the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering and to the many friends for their prayers and quiet acts of kindness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Melanoma Research Foundation, 1411 K Street, NW, Suite 500, Washington, DC 20005.
